Direct POSITIVE process
This process was discovered by Hippolyte Bayard, it included silver chloride paper to light. This changed the paper all black. It then sad and absorbed in potassium iodide before placed in the camera. Once in the camera it was washed of hyposulfite of soda and then dried. The photograph that was produced can never be reproduced. For the photo to process it took about twenty minutes.
Daguerrotype
This process was invented by Daguerrotype, the first step to the process is to clean the silver plated copper plate until it looks like a mirror. Next the plate is placed over iodide in a box until it turns to a yellow-rose color. This plate is then transferred to the camera where it is exposed to light until an image appears, it is placed over hot mercury. This process can take three to twelve minutes this is why not many self portraits were taken.
Calotype
The process was developed by Talbot, this image is produced with salted paper. The image appears negative but though its positive counterpart. All the images are formed by brushing the best drawing on with silver nitrate. The paper then dries and is pushed into potassium iodide this forms a light sensitive layer and silver iodide. The paper then goes into the camera, the image is exposed by washing in gallo-nitrate of silver. Only and invisible image is produce it is shown by being washed in gallo-nitrate of silver then can be more clear by waxing.
